Obviously by the fact that I made this rp blog you guys obviously know I’m a Flash Thompson Venom fan. And why not? He’s probably my favourite form of Venom, he’s a bully turned hero, he’s become a generally good guy even with his odd quirks and the fact that he does cross the line a few times. Of course he only crosses the line if he has too, e.g. when Crime Master abducted everyone he cared about and made him run around New York like a chicken with his head cut off trying to save them.

At any rate though, I’ve noticed that most people don’t know Flash has become a super hero, and those that do can’t believe he’s a hero, and why is that…?

If you’re a Spider-man buff like me then you probably share my resentment of the new Ultimate Spider-man series. I’ll admit, I like some of the jokes, but in all honesty, there are better Spider-man series out there, but the point of this rant isn’t the Ultimate Spider-man show, it’s Flash Thompson.

We all know Flash was a bully in school, he got his sick kicks by beating on Peter and at the same time, looked up to Spider-man. Imagine his surprise if he found out the kid he had been beating up was actually his idol? Anyway, in school Flash was dense, he was a jerk, and there were times where he was just an all around meat head. But at the same time he had also shown he had a good heart and it’s of course revealed in the comics that his bullying ways were because of his shitty family life.

Ultimate Spider-man however depicts Flash as being a complete jerk with no redeemable qualities and there are times where the character borders on being completely brainless. No scratch that, the Ultimate Spider-man Flash is completely brainless. I’ve seen clips from the show online and have seen comments like ‘this is the guy Marvel decided to turn into Venom? what the fuck are they thinking?’

Amazing Spider-man’s Flash Thompson had more redeemable qualities than that guy, especially in the one scene where he apologizes to Peter after Uncle Ben dies.

Or in the other scene when Flash helps Spider-man when the Lizard attacks the high school.

Hell, the Flash Thompson in the first Spider-man movies had more redeemable qualities than the Ultimate Spider-man Flash Thompson, and that guy was only in the movie for like the first twenty or so minutes.

I get it, Flash was a jock, I hated jocks when I was in grade school, what Nerd, Geek, Weirdo, or any other ‘social reject’ didn’t hate jocks when they were in grade school? But just because Flash was a jock didn’t mean he was a complete moron who only knew football, and shoving Parker in lockers and toilets.

For shame Marvel, for shame!

It just irks me when I character I’ve come to like gets turned into the icon of stupidity for entertainment purposes, yeah I get it, the show needs a token comic relief character. But it’s kind of hard when every main character on the show winds up being a token comic relief character, meaning the minor characters have to be even funnier and therefore even stupider. And then having to make the bully character the stupidest of the bunch.

Oh yeah, I see the Ultimate Spider-man Flash Thompson becoming something alright, and you know what that something is?

… Oh yeah, I just went there. The Flash Thompson on Ultimate Spider-man is very much as annoying to me as Jar Jar Binks is to Star Wars fans (myself included).

The Amazing Spider-man Flash Thompson has a better chance at becoming Agent Venom than that clod!

Seriously people, cut Flash some slack! He’s turned out to be such a well written character and a real bad ass as the current Venom. Don’t base everything you know about the character on some incredibly badly written cartoon.
